Burmese Teak Hardwood Teak is a hardwood of the family Tectona Grandis. Not all teak wood is the same. There are many grades of teak quality and we have chosen the world's best quality, Burmese teak. Burmese teak is denser and heavier with 500% more natural oil content than Indonesian teak. Burmese teak’s appearance is a richer golden color with more beautiful grain patterns. The higher oil content aids in prolonging the natural weathering process and its high density naturally repels parasites. We use only the heartwood portion (center) of the tree, with no dead knots. This makes for strong, even colored teak wood.
Shorea (yellow balau) Hardwood Shorea (yellow balau) is a hardwood of the family Dipterocarpaceae. Shorea (yellow balau) is a very dense, tightly grained wood that is heavily laden with rich oils and resins. Shorea (yellow balau) has texture that is very fine and even. Our shorea (yellow balau) hardwood looks very much like Burmese teak hardwood in color. Although, very similar in characteristics to Burmese teak we enjoy working with shorea (yellow balau) for its durability, strength, seasoning and mechanical properties. For centuries, shorea (yellow balau) has been used for heavy-duty outdoor garden furniture, shipbuilding, heavy construction and coveted for its excellent strength and weather resistant qualities.
Granite Stone Granite stone is naturally beautiful and extremely durable. Full granite slabs are used as table tops and are accented with shorea (yellow balau) hardwood bases. All granite tops are single slab and naturally unique. All granite tops and edges are polished to a high gloss finish.
Textilene® Sling Seating Textilene® is an extremely durable and comfortable fabric designed to withstand extreme outdoor environments. Textilene® material consists of polyester yarn that is individually coated with PVC. Textilene® is the ideal choice of material for years of comfort in sling seating. All our sling seating is framed with shorea (yellow balau) hardwood.
Sunbrella Fabric Sunbrella fabric is made from 100 percent solution-dyed acrylic yarns. Solution-dying is the process of adding color to acrylic fiber during manufacturing while they are in a liquid state. This characteristic of Sunbrella fabric is the key to locking in color. Fade proof, stain-resistant these fabrics are worry free and long lasting. We use Sunbrella for our cushions and umbrella covers.
Kiln Dried Our Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) hardwood is cut into rough board lumber and initially air dried for 10 days. Next, the Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) hardwood is kiln dried for up to 60 days. These woods are finally sun-dried to achieve a beauty golden hue. At time of shipment, a moisture content range of between 8% - 14% is achieved. This is the ideal moisture content for Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) hardwood for our dry North American climate. This drying process is essential in reducing warping, cracking, checking and aids in prolonging the life of outdoor garden Burmese teak furniture and outdoor garden shorea (yellow balau) furniture. This promotes long lasting high quality outdoor garden furniture.
Oversized Heavy frame pieces and table tops are used in the construction of our outdoor garden Burmese teak furniture and outdoor garden shorea (yellow balau) furniture to provide many years of enjoyment and better style (as evidenced by the weight of each individual furniture item). Teak has been the best choice of wood for outdoor garden furniture because of its beauty and durability. Until recently, availability and lower costs have made teak wood the best value available in outdoor garden furniture. Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) are hardwoods which do not come from tropical rain forests. In fact, Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) cannot grow in rain forests — it is a deciduous tree which grows in the dry, hilly terrains of forests in Southeast Asia.

Shipbuilders have known for centuries about the beauty, remarkable texture, and superior weather resistance of Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) wood. Burmese teak and shorea garden furniture can be left outside all year around, surviving even the most extreme weather conditions.
The most important characteristic of Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) is their durability in all weather conditions. Burmese teak and shorea (yellow balau) are extremely dense grained hardwoods which resist rot, warping, shrinking and swelling. Their high natural oil content continually preserves the wood so it can be left outdoors for decades without maintenance.

It is said that the first outdoor garden teak furniture was made from decking of old sailing ships that were headed to the scrap yard.
